What is Multi-Factor Authentication and how do I use it in Valid Eval?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an added layer of security that helps protect your account. Instead of logging in with just your password, MFA requires a second step—usually a time-based code generated on your phone. This feature ensures that your account will never be compromised in the event that someone gets ahold of your personal details.
In the Valid Eval system, Organizers, Navigators, and Team Leads are required to use MFA. If you attempt to login and are requested to provide an MFA, but work in a setting that does not allow phone access (SCIF or other no-phone environments), reach out to support@valideval.com to request removal from any roles that require an MFA.
When you sign up, the system will guide you through MFA setup. You’ll see a QR code on your screen. To complete setup:
- Download or open an authenticator app on your phone.
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
- In the app, choose the option to add an account or scan a QR code.
- Point your phone’s camera at the QR code on the signup page.
- The app will generate a unique 6-digit code every 30 seconds. Enter the code into our system when prompted.
That’s it! Once set up, you’ll just need to open your authenticator app and enter the current code whenever you log in.
Troubleshooting MFA
- What if I lose or replace my phone?
Contact our support team immediately. We can help reset your MFA so you can register a new device. - Can I use MFA on more than one device?
Yes. During setup, you can scan the same QR code on multiple devices (e.g., your phone and tablet). Each will then generate valid codes. - My code isn’t working. What should I do?
Make sure the time on your phone is set to update automatically. MFA codes are time-based, and if your phone clock is off, the codes may not sync correctly.
